Mission

To help Canadians save money and feel respected in the provision of regulated services

Vision

To ensure no Canadians are taken advantage of in the provision of essential, needed regulated services.

The Public Interest Advocacy Centre provides legal and research services about the provision of important regulated services for all Canadians, and, in particular, vulnerable consumers.

The Public Interest Advocacy Centre (PIAC) is a federally incorporated non-profit and registered charity (Charitable Number: 130592405RR0001) that works to ensure that government and the private sector consider the public interest, consumer rights, as well as values like diversity and equal opportunity, when making decisions about public services that are vital to participation in society.

By advocating before and working with government departments, independent tribunals and related organizations, including the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) and Industry Canada, we have successfully advanced the rights of Canadians to create positive outcomes for them with regard to contract terms, their receipt of accurate information, accessible essential services and affordable pricing, and the protection of people’s privacy.

We also work to ensure that consumers receive redress in situations where important public services (whether delivered by the private sector or government or a combination) have not served their needs appropriately and in particular, we focus upon ensuring that the interests of vulnerable populations are championed.
